It's alright, It's love

This is another one of my favourite Korean series which isn't the typical soap drama of everyone plotting against one another or the fantasy type of blood sucking Dracula or superpower human or non-human beings. The main plot revolves around various psychological issues and how they work towards solving them or not really solving, but to co-habit and complement each other.

It starts off with a scene of Jae-Yeol (main male character) being stabbed by a random guy while partying in a club (It was his birthday party). You'll get a bit confused at first but the revelation of the reason will dawn upon you in the later parts of the series and it turns out that the stabber was not any random guy but his own brother. The scene then jumps to 2 years later with Jae-Yeol and Hye-Soo (main female character) getting off the wrong foot when they first met each other as guests of a talk show. What first attracts me to this series is the quirky exchange from both main characters which is fast pace, humorous and occasionally heartwarming. Through these small exchanges we are able to feel the chemistry brewing between them which eventually will either lead towards a love or hate relationship. (Didn't people always say that it is only a fine line between love and hate ^-^) As the plot develops, more emotions are being weaved in with how various characters in the plot manage their lives while coping with their mental diseases. It also provides some perspective to the audience that what meets the eye is not all what we seem, educating us to be empathetic and sympathize those who suffer from these illnesses. The most heart wrenching part was when Jae-Yeol (who suffered from psychosis) had to deal with his hallucination and come to terms with it on his own. I cried buckets in the scene when he had finally come to terms with his hallucination and bid a formal farewell to it while being grateful that it was what keeping him sane all these while instead of going bonkers. It also made me intrigued as how delicate the mind is and fascinating of how it works to help us cope with events around us, especially while dealing with traumatic experiences. Hallucinations ain't all that bad and can be very beautiful to co-habit with unless there are signs of it developing to a life-threatening stage. The story then ends on a light and happy note which is absolutely perfect and satisfying, giving audience hope and positive vibes that even though the storm might be rough and turbulent but clear skies will definitely follow through.

Another superb musical!!!!

I really love musicals as I'm a fan of music and dancing, I've even fantasize to be in one up until now. Being in the limelight singing and dancing all the way through, it would really be the job of a lifetime. However due to certain not so perfect qualities of mine (such as height, voice, flexibility of the body), I ended up in another type of stage performance and limelight, educating. :)

Well, after Annie, Chicago, Dreamgirls, Les miserables, The King And I, Moulin Rouge, Hairspray, Sweeney Todd, My fair Lady, The Sound Of Music, West Side Story, Phantom Of The Opera, Evita, Greese, Marry Poppins, Mamma Mia, Glee, not to mention a whole bunch of cartoons such as Tangled, Enchanted, The Little Mermaid, Cinderella and a whole long list, here's another addition to it: Burlesque!!!!


I absolutely love it with Cher and Christina as the lead singer and actress. It's a wonder to see Cher, now at the age of 64, still looking fabulous with her silhouette body figure and long slender legs. The only thing that gave her away that she is aging are a few of the very fine lines that appeared on her face. She can still sing in that husky low voice of hers.

Next in line of course would be the ever powerful vocals of Christina. I could hardly recognize her from the preview of the movie as she looks so different from when she made her debut single 'Genie in a bottle'. Guess must be chubbiness of her face that makes her look completely different but still as sexy as hell!!!

Burlesque has a very normal and predictable storyline. Girl meets boy. Girl in distress and boy helps out. Both fall in love with each other and of course one of them is already attached (but to the wrong one). They fight, she leaves, he apologizes and make things right, happy ending!!! Although the storyline is lame but it still captivates you and keep you entertained with the songs, dances and not forgetting the costumes too. It like in the circus where you get the whole full package of entertainment. There are also certain scenes in which the songs are so good that you really feel like standing up to dance and sing together with them and be part of burlesque.

All in all I give all thumbs to Burlesque!!!!!!!

Have you 'Tangled' ?

After a long day at work yesterday, my colleague and I decided to head to the movies to relax. Besides it was a Wednesday so we'd get cheap tics. Unfortunately the cinema was packed, even on a week day, then it struck us that it was school hols.

After the long dreaded queue, we finally manage to approach the counter and another dismay as the 9.00pm show was already full. The only seats available was in the first row. The next available screening time would be 11.10pm and the price pops back up to RM 10. After a few moments of contemplation, both of us decided to dive in for the screening at 11.10pm.

After wandering the malls for about 1 1/2 hours. we had no choice but to sit at McD for another 1/2 hour cause all the shops were closed by then. Finally the awaited time has arrived. We then navigated the way to the cinema with our half closed eyelids and drag our tired bodies along. We both even vowed to burn down the cinema if the animated film was a flop after all those torture of waiting. But that didn't happen cause it's the best animated film ever for both of us.

We had never laughed so hard at an animated film before. The storyline was similar to the original Rapunzel with some adaptation made. What made the whole film much more captivating would be the songs and portrays of the unique characters of the animals in the movies. If there was an award for the best character in the movie that would definitely, undeniably, unanimously be MAXIMUS.

Maximus is the captain of the Royal Palace Guard's Horse. He takes his job of capturing and hunting down criminals seriously. The humour of his character was that he is a horse which acts more like a dog. Besides, the ongoing feud with the hero of the story (Fylnn Rider) was hilarious with both of them taking occasional jabs at one another without Rapunzel knowing it. The creator has cleverly personified Maximus which makes him more adorable to the audience. I personally wouldn't mind to have a pet like Maximus who expresses his likes and dislikes in a straightforward manner.


Of course there is also Pascal, the little green chameleon and also Rapunzel's only best friend while she was locked up the tower. Pascal is also personified to have his own antics which also makes him lovable but they are more subtle compared to Maximus more domineering ones. Pascal acts as Rapunzel's consultant and guardian in which they consult matters such as: her leaving the tower and deciding if Fylnn Rider, the intruder, was a good lad or like all the evils of the world that Rapunzel's fake mother (the villain) had warned them about. He also keeps Fylnn and Maximus in line of their childish assault towards one another.

Besides those 2 eccentric characters in the story, the songs are also a plus for the movies. I've always like the songs in animated films produced by Disney and i guess there's another few hits in Tangled as well. The first would be 'healing incantation'. This is actually not a song but a few lines of words that are sung repeatedly to a very calming melody for the magical powers of Rapunzel's hair to work. The next of course would be 'Mother knows best' that i guess would set deep into the hearts of all children and mothers.

Finally for those who have not watched this film I would give them 5 out of 5 thumbs. I really strongly recommend this film to all young and old as it rejuvenates the soul.

Hm... talking about that i hope no one noticed my zombie look at work for the day. ^-^

Lie To Me

I really like this series as it opens up my knowledge on how to detect if a person is lying just through microexpressions of the face.

It begins with the story of Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth) who went around the world researching microexpressions (in which you will find out in the later episodes) that was triggered by his mother's suicide. He then founded The Lightman Group, and together with a bunch of collegues, assist 3rd parties such as law enforcements in investigations to solve cases through interpreting microexpressions on the face and body language.

Throughout the whole series you will be able to pick up 1 or 2 universal signs of contempt or shame, which is humorously depicted with pictures of leaders around the world. This series is definitely a good watch but unfortunately I'm only onto season 1 and is waiting to get my hands on Season 2 and 3.

'The Four' (TVB Series)

I am currently watching ‘The Four’, a Cantonese series by TVB. The story revolves around four very different individuals whom are chosen to take up the position as imperial guards (a.k.a. investigator) of a particular department that is righteous in upholding the law among the society. As usual their arch enemy would be a powerful and influential character which in this case is the prime minister of the country. Hm………. doesn’t this resemble a particular situation that is occurring now? Anyway, this evil kenevil prime minister is entrusted by the emperor and therefore to go against him would be like digging one’s own grave.

Let us move on to the four interesting individuals. They are each given a name according to their characteristics. The first is Loveless (wu qing – by Raymond Lam), he was named by a monk after his entire family was killed due to a misunderstanding of two families. He was the only survivor but was crippled by the family’s enemy. Therefore throughout the movie he sits in an extremely innovative wheel chair in which he could maneuver easily and has secret compartment for his darts as his main weapon and from his name I bet you are able to predict his personality. Loveless is considered the brain of the group as he has been educated since young of every possible thing on earth and is skillful in martial arts. However he is a cold fish and presumes everyone as incompetent fools.

The next to be recruited is called Metal Hands (tie shou – by Kenneth Ma). He got this name as the main characteristic of his kung fu is his super powerful punch. Metal Hands’s character however is the opposite of Loveless as he is very friendly and dreams of nothing but to uphold justice and righteousness. He is more of a straightforward and action guy and does not give much thought of the consequences or reasons.

The third would be Follow Mission (zhui ming - . Actually I don’t know how to translate his name but the meaning is there so apologies to all. Well this guy’s character is very lively. I guess he is the one that sends the whole series into a lighter mood. His famous skill is the shadow leg and has very good (heng gong). He has a lot of tricky ideas up his sleeves as he was a conman before being selected as the imperial guards.

The last would be Cold Blood (leng xue – Ron Ng). He was previously an assassin who killed without mercy and was able to kill at lightening speed. He lost both of his parents when he was young and was raised by the wolves in the forest. He had therefore acquired the skill of tracking down a person in the forest by his scent. This was what made him an asset to the Justice department and be named as Cold Blood.

Well after a brief description of all four of the main characters in it then it is up to you guys and gals to go watch the series. It shows how these four very different individuals are able to corporate and iron out their differences by complementing on each others skills in the process of solving the difficult cases. As for the conclusion, I guess all of you would have guessed that is justice would prevail all.
