Temporary Kindergarten Principle

Wednesday, December 31, 2008

I had to stand in as acting principle for a kindergarten of my sister's friend during the holidays. Well ..........not really as an acting priciple but just to unlock the gates and keep an eye on the teacher and maid.

There were only 5 children because they were under the day care programme. The other were on school holiday. I had a lot of fun playing with them but it is a tiring job as the younger ones are constantly trying to get your sole attention and sometimes you just feel like splitting yourself into 2 just to meet their needs. However it was a very goog experience.

Short trip to Singapore

I went to feel the breeze of Singapore during the holidays. My family and I took off last saturday and stayed the night in Johor before crossing over to Singapore. We woke up early in the morning to beat the traffic on the causeway as you know traffic conggestion over there is terrible, horrible and vegetable..............*-*

Well the merchandise there are damn cheap compared to ours but the price of a house over there is damn expensive. I didn't manage to shop but luckily i got to meet my ex-house/university mates over there. We did a little bit of catching up and it was interesting to hear all their adventure and stories while working in Singapore.

Oh .....my family and i also got lost while heading back to my aunt's apartment. We had the GPRS but the road signs sucks. We practically rounded the city for an hour an alf before finally reaching our intended destination. We even pass through little India of Singapore, what a sight....... i really thought i was in India with the masses of Indian people walking around.

Legend Water Chalet in P.D.

Saturday, December 13, 2008

It was a beautiful day and after a long and tiring session of talks. Me and my apartment mates (Cozaine, Chow & Heng) decided to take an evening walk along the water chalets situated next to our 3 star resort. We heard that our next door hotel was given a 5 star rating and therefore decided to check it out ourselves.Equipped with our cameras, shorts and sandals, we started our exiciting expedition.
The view from the water chalets were magnificent. It was as if we were in a small neighbourhood that was built on the sea. One could be fooled that we were in Maldives from the pictures that we have taken. There are also some crazy ones that we took in which they will be embedded in our lovely memories forever.

The only sore eye of the whole view was the sea water. It was seriously polluted and murky. A vast contrast of the clear blue sea that had always been portrayed in the ads and tourism campaign. And with Maldives......... i see no competition there. However, this did not affect us as we continue to pose differently with each 'click' of the camera.

Induction course part 2

Alright, after all the ramblings in part 1 i guess now is to continue, not with ramblings, but reminiscence of the fun time and new friends that we met and made throughout the course.

The best thing that ever happen was that we get to meet and make many new friends. Some were juniors just like me while some were a bit senior. However I was lucky as all off my group members were very easy going, cheerful, caring and lot's more. During the 2 weeks we have bonded very well and we seem like one big happy family than different individuals from different places.

I still remember the time when we've sucessfully done practising for our closing ceromony performance and went out for supper together. All nine of us squeezed into a MPV, with our group leader in the driver seat. Our group leader was just like a father to us as he has a very tranquil aura around him. He is also very knowledgeable as he has been teaching for quite sometime. We made a ruckus all along the way expecially Khong with her funny quirks.

Almost at the end of the 2nd week we gather for the last time, express our feelings and said our goodbyes. It was a very touching moment and i will definitely remember those moments and miss them.

Induction course 2008 part 1

Friday, December 12, 2008

I've been attending an induction course for the past 2 weeks as it is a compulsory course for all new civil servant. It was practically a torture session if you ask me. No doubt there were some very informative topics about leaves, allowances and medical benefit in it but most were in my opinion insignificant. Yes you read me clearly...... INSIGNIFICANT! and there was also some history of how our education system was formed. Pftt........ no connection there........ (I HATE HISTORY)

My reasoning for this induction course was that there were too many employees in this sector and in order to segregate some work to them, courses like these were invented. Well most of the useful topics are presented by speakers who are already burden with loads of work by their post and still they are further burdened with all these minor seminars. While for all those useless topics i guess they have too much time on their hands and therefore they are call to torture us and in a way to occupy their working time.

Some of the speakers were very good as they conducted their presentation in a very interesting way by occasionally slipping in cases, jokes, funny pictures to keep us alive and awake throughout his speech. There are also those who just babble on by reading their powerpoint slides. What's the point for those speakers? what's the point? The question keeps repeating itself in my head throughout the induction course.

My suggestion would be to provide each new civil servant with an employees handbook so that they can refer to if they encounter any problems. The handbook of course will state the common rules and regulation and if there is a special case, we would refer to the person in charge of that section. There can be hundred and one scenarios just on rights to claim certain allowances which can't go into the book altogether. If courses held was for this purpose then it would not be a best solution as we might not be able to think 0f these 101 scenarios unless we encounted it let alone during that 4 hours of talk. Besides, printing a handbook by the bulk is much more cheaper than having to pay for the accommodation, food and traveling for a duration of 2 weeks to all who attended this course.

In the teaching profession, i would have hoped that the government would allocated funds to send teacher to attend courses that helps in the field of teaching such as courses organised by MELTA. They have various kinds of courses which explores the possibility of using a particular materials to come up with creative and effective ways of teaching or maybe a much more lively and interesting method to pass on the knowledge to students. Now wouldn't that be more interesting and relevant?

How does the minds of those people works still puzzles me but for all i know is that to survive you have to make the best out of the things around you and to make the best out of this induction course would be to get ample of rest before going back to the tedious task of teaching.

Alleluyah!!!!!! ^-^

I am sick.

Wednesday, November 19, 2008

I've been sick for almost a week. The bug caught me during the weekends and I was down with fever. After I've recovered from the fever I caught a cold. It kept me sneezing all the way through, but the satisfaction after sneezing it out was way beyond all ratings.^-^

Hope I get well soon!

Back to school

Tuesday, November 11, 2008

Well, after a week of hols I'm back working. New semester, new things to teach. It's a hard life being a teacher. Yeah.....yeah you get all the perks for having lots of hols but the problem is you're always readjusting your mood as you are always in between working mood and holiday mood. T'was hard for me to drag my a** all the way back to Malacca to work after a week's comfort at home.

Shifting House

Tuesday, November 4, 2008

For the last few days I have been busy shifting to a new home, a very tiring and tedious task. My whole back is aching now due to the heavy lifting and climbing up and down the stairs. In the process of shifting I was somewhat frus. of my mom. She wants everything to be quick effective and efficient which contradicts to the way I do things. I like to do things leisurely and if I start at something I will usually go through it till the end but if I'm tired and would like to rest then no one can move me.

We are shifting to a new house not far from my old one, about 10-15 min drive. My concept is that I will empty out the things in the drawers or cupboards that needs to be shifted to the new house by lorry and the others we can take our time and move it little by little. This will definitely make the whole shifting process a relaxing one instead of having to rush everything. But my mom,....................... the dictatorship likes it everything her way, and that is, if possible, to shift the whole house there immediately with one trip. She would be estactic if every single item could be teleported into our new house at once.

My mom always complain that no one listens to her, but what she refuses to aknowledge is that she is the one that cannot accept anything which is a different method or version of hers. She is the female version of Adolf Hitler that needs everthing to be excecuted her way. Yes of course I do admit that she has a lot of experience and do know the best and effective way to almost everything but that does not mean we have to follow it. She insists we follow her way by giving the reason: if her way is the best which is effective and saves time then why can't we follow her's. She also added that if we could suggest a more efficient way then she would accept it. Yes I do get her point and it is very true when it comes to work but this is home, something personal like packing our wardrobe or the arrangement of bags. Couldn't she just let us do it our way, so what if our method is not as efiicient as hers, it is our time that we are wasting and most important of all we like doing it that way.

To sum it all up, I have been like a robot for the past few days just listening to her instructions and dare not even arrange anything without her opinion afraid that she will 'sound' me again and I will have to rearrange it according to her likings.(now isn't that also called double work) That's not the end of it, she then continues to babbler on that we never listen to her instructions and that she has to look over everything herself, blah blah blah blah. I sometimes wonder that my indecisive behaviour is actually from the way I was brought up, but gladly I am learning to stand up and defend myself by voicing out my opinion.

Finally this is off my chest. I feel much better.
p.s. Mom I really do love you but sometimes I just can't stand you. If you could just relax and lay back for a while maybe your health will get better. I know mom worries about everything but you can't worry all. We are old enough to take care of oursleves so just let us be. You can't be taking care of us for the rest of our lives so I guess you can start by slowly letting go.

The mighty invigilator.

Friday, October 31, 2008

Well, it's been a hectic week having to invigilate exams in our college. For the past three days I have been invigilating for both morning and afternoon sessions and finally today is the last. We usually get off work by 4.15pm but the exam ends at 4.30pm everyday. Hm........ wonder if we can claim O.T. for that?

"In your dreams!" replied my collegue.

Well I wouldn't mind dreaming of the extra cash rather than the frightful vampire dream that i had previously. But nonetheless we are given some allowances for invigilating. Better than none i suppose.

The internet connection is still not up and going yet. I know, I know, you people must be irritated as to why this girl is still yapping about the internet connection at her work place. The lots of you might be saying:"It's already been a week, give it up already!" But I can't. Those maintenance people are not here to repair it yet??!!!?? Lucikly there is still the unit's computer to go online and therefore I am able to post all of this up. I'm also busy invigilating as i've mention at the begining of this post so i've got no time to bother about the internet connection, if not you'll see more of the word 'BORED' posted up here.

Happy Birthday!

I've just had my birthday a few days ago. Hah...... I'm not going to reveal my age here, you can keep on guessing. ^-^ It was a lonely birthday cause I was in Melaka and working. Lonely as in no parties and gathering with friends. However I did received a lot of smses from my family, friends & collegues. That however had already warmed my heart.

Year by year as we grow older, the anticipation of celebrating birthdays seems to get less and less. To me now is naturally just like any other days. Of course when you received the wishes you fell good and knows that people still cares, but another part of me seems to feel shy as birthdays are more for kids. On the other hand, if people totally ignore your birthday you feel down cause you feel like no one notices you! ........What a confusing thought to have during your birthday!

At this point of time I am satisfied with just accepting it gracefully and let the pondering to a latter stage of my life. Besides i'm only .................. ah hah!....... manage to catch myself there. Phew!!!!! That was a close one.

Last but not least, 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!'

'The Four' (TVB Series)

I am currently watching ‘The Four’, a Cantonese series by TVB. The story revolves around four very different individuals whom are chosen to take up the position as imperial guards (a.k.a. investigator) of a particular department that is righteous in upholding the law among the society. As usual their arch enemy would be a powerful and influential character which in this case is the prime minister of the country. Hm………. doesn’t this resemble a particular situation that is occurring now? Anyway, this evil kenevil prime minister is entrusted by the emperor and therefore to go against him would be like digging one’s own grave.

Let us move on to the four interesting individuals. They are each given a name according to their characteristics. The first is Loveless (wu qing – by Raymond Lam), he was named by a monk after his entire family was killed due to a misunderstanding of two families. He was the only survivor but was crippled by the family’s enemy. Therefore throughout the movie he sits in an extremely innovative wheel chair in which he could maneuver easily and has secret compartment for his darts as his main weapon and from his name I bet you are able to predict his personality. Loveless is considered the brain of the group as he has been educated since young of every possible thing on earth and is skillful in martial arts. However he is a cold fish and presumes everyone as incompetent fools.

The next to be recruited is called Metal Hands (tie shou – by Kenneth Ma). He got this name as the main characteristic of his kung fu is his super powerful punch. Metal Hands’s character however is the opposite of Loveless as he is very friendly and dreams of nothing but to uphold justice and righteousness. He is more of a straightforward and action guy and does not give much thought of the consequences or reasons.

The third would be Follow Mission (zhui ming - . Actually I don’t know how to translate his name but the meaning is there so apologies to all. Well this guy’s character is very lively. I guess he is the one that sends the whole series into a lighter mood. His famous skill is the shadow leg and has very good (heng gong). He has a lot of tricky ideas up his sleeves as he was a conman before being selected as the imperial guards.

The last would be Cold Blood (leng xue – Ron Ng). He was previously an assassin who killed without mercy and was able to kill at lightening speed. He lost both of his parents when he was young and was raised by the wolves in the forest. He had therefore acquired the skill of tracking down a person in the forest by his scent. This was what made him an asset to the Justice department and be named as Cold Blood.

Well after a brief description of all four of the main characters in it then it is up to you guys and gals to go watch the series. It shows how these four very different individuals are able to corporate and iron out their differences by complementing on each others skills in the process of solving the difficult cases. As for the conclusion, I guess all of you would have guessed that is justice would prevail all.

Happy Viewing!

The internet at workplace. (part 2)

It is a fine weather outside, the sun is shining and there is the occasional breeze that blows through. Although fine on the outside it was however gloomy and dull for me inside the office. This is the third day I’m at the staff room with no internet connection. The most frustrating thing is that not the whole unit is unable to connect to the net but only a few certain places and of course mine inclusive. I have already reported the situation but up till now there is still no action taken. Shall I wait until my body decays here and may I rest in peace before any repair work is done? No…. my body will not rest in peace if that happens. What is one supposed to do to get some things done around here? Bloody incompetent fools.

Damn……and double damn……..

I have been trying to occupy my time by doing some other useful things like rearraging the files on my desk, sorting out the papers or exercises according to its categories, and clearing up any rubbish that I have left in the cupboards or drawers, preparing some of the materials for the next semester and up to the extend of scrutinizing every single article in the papers and its advertisement. What else? WHAT ELSE? Do I move on forward to pick up grains of sands at my place instead of sweeping to occupy my time?

I am so BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED! BORED!

The internet at workplace.

The internet connection is still out at my work place. As a place of educational institution you would have thought we have at least the basic necessity to fullfill our job requirements. How are we to do any work if there is no internet connection? It takes days or maybe weeks to have it repaired and then we are being reprimanded for not carrying out our task well.

I know some of you might be wondering shouldn’t a teacher be teaching rather than get hooked online? We also use the net for work and information search. However this week so happens to be study week therefore we have more free time on our hands to actually surf the net for materials or do some reading to improve or gain extra knowledge …………………………….what? doesn’t sound convincing?

Alright, alright, I admit we also use them for chatting, palying games, log in to friendster/facebook and etc., but hey……. for your information, we are humans too and it isn’t too much to ask for occasionally checking mail or msn with friends of collegue. Of course all this has to be in moderation as long as it does not interfere with our work, as the saying goes ‘all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’. Besides it also enables one to relax and be relieved of stress especially in our field which we have to deal with different personalities and attitude of students almost every day.

Isn’t this an information technology era? If so why are the connections so poor and this is supposed to be a Pre-U educational institute. What rubbish and irony of the situation! No wonder the public has less confidence of the local education.

Implications of a dream......

This actually happened to me a few days ago and I meant to post it up immediately but there was no connection at my work place so it was postponed up until now. Well so here goes my story:

I had a sleepness night the other day and had not encountered it for about a year. Usually I will sleep through the night soundly without any dreams and wake up the next morning feeling fresh and energetic. However, that particular night, I was unable to sleep. I lay wide awake in my bed until the wee hours of the morning then only gradually drifted off to sleep. I guess I only had about forty winks as I was awoken again by the morning prayers broadcasted from the mosque. I was used to the sound of morning prayers and it usually has no effect or whatsoever on me but I was particularly sentitive to it that day. My lids were heavy therefore I tried to get back to sleep and this time I slowly drifted to dreamland………….or should I say scary dreamland.

In the dream I was unable to define where I was as the place seems unfamiliar to me but I know I have a car and it was somewhere near a market and a park. The park was where I parked my car. I was at the market and all of a sudden there were vampires chasing me. I can’t see them or their faces neither that I know if they are of human form but it was just a gut feeling that there were vampires chasing me waiting to turm me into one.

To be exact, in my dream there were only 2 vampires and me in the picture. I’m not sure where everyone else has gone to but who cares? I only thought of running. One of them was chasing me while the other was still on the verge of turning into a vampire. I had to freeze the other in order to prvent it from turning into one. The weird thing was that the 2nd vampire was almost the size of a fish so I was able to locate an ice box with loads of ice in it and dumped him in (I assume it was a he).

Throughout the dream I was practically running here and there to escape the first vampire, find an icebox, freeze the second bugger so that it would not turn into their kind, and carrying the heavy icebox to load it into my car and take off to a safe location. (busy huh?) As I was loading the icebox into the car the vampire closed in on me, I knew I didn’t have a chance but still trying hard to get myslf out of the sticky situation. In the midst of deciding whether to fight off the vampire with all I’ve got or just to drop the icebox and run to save my pretty a**, I woke up from my dream.

I wasn’t sweating but my heart was beating rapidly. All energy seems to be seeped out of me as I felt lethargic. I felt drowsy that whole day during work but luckily there wasn’t any class conducted for that whole week. Hm…….. people say that dreams are actually a message to us from the subconscious mind. I wonder what mine is telling me. Any dream interpretor out there to help me out?
